Drs. Leslie Donato and Vlad Vasile of the Mayo Clinic to Present Workshop: "Lp(a) and Its Lipid Cargo in the Era of Lp(a) Inhibitors" on July 28
Helena is pleased to sponsor an industry workshop in conjunction with the ADLM 2026 Clinical Lab Expo, featuring distinguished clinical chemist Leslie J. Donato, PhD and cardiologist Vlad Vasile, MD of the Mayo Clinic as keynote speakers. The workshop “Lipoprotein(a) and Its Lipid Cargo in the Era of Lp(a) Inhibitors” will take held on Tuesday, July 28th at 6 pm at the Hilton Anaheim, Room California A.
Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is a known genetically-expressed contributor of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The combination of first ever Lp(a)-specific pharmacotherapies in late-stage clinical trials and endorsement of universal one-per-lifetime measurement of Lp(a) concentrations in most major worldwide guidelines is likely to result in a dramatic increase in Lp(a) test orders. However, accurate measurement of Lp(a) is complicated due to its size heterogeneity within the population. Additionally, it’s largely unappreciated that the cholesterol within Lp(a) is reported as a part of LDL-C in the basic lipid panel. This can lead to confusion about diagnosis and treatment monitoring in some patients. This workshop will explore these topics.
Workshop goals:
- Comprehend the latest national and international guidelines supporting Lp(a) testing and how to interpret the results.
- Appreciate how Lp(a) cholesterol contributes to the LDL cholesterol reported in the lipid panel and how Lp(a)-C can complicate the interpretation of LDL-C.
Dr. Donato serves as Assistant Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Co-Director of Hospital Clinical Laboratory and Point of Care Testing, and Co-Director of Cardiovascular Laboratory Medicine at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Vasile is a Consultant Preventive Cardiologist, Associate Professor of Medicine and Assistant Professor of Laboratory Medicine at the Mayo Clinic. He serves as the Co-Director of the Clinical Specialty Laboratory, Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Health Clinic, and Practice Chair of the Preventive Cardiology Division.
The workshop is open to clinical laboratory professionals. Seating is first-come, first-served.
